Analytik launch NEW VideometerLab 2 - A full visual quality assessment in 10 seconds

Cambridge, UK, 29th July 2011: Analytik, leading suppliers of innovative analytical instrumentation, are pleased to announce the release of the new VideometerLab 2, an easy-to-use multispectral imaging and automated visual measurement system for fast and accurate determination of surface colour, texture and chemical composition of manufactured and natural products.

Based on high-intensity integrating sphere illumination via light emitting diodes (LEDs) together with a high resolution camera, the well defined and diffuse illumination enhances true colour as well as colour variation of samples.

For materials with non-uniform colour and texture, conventional optical techniques such as NIR spectroscopy only measure a single point or average over a fixed area and do not give an objective overall assessment of visual quality. Studies have shown that VideometerLab 2 is as accurate as a test panel, with a significantly higher repeatability, removing subjective analysis. Certain areas of special interest such as shape, size or texture can be studied automatically.

VideometerLab 2 can be optimised for a given application and is not restricted to the wavelengths spanned by traditional RGB technology. Using LEDs in the UV or NIR adds information not visible to the human eye. As an example, most objects are white or transparent in the NIR region, which allows for the separation of the colour and surface properties of the measured object.

Designed for fast, non-contact measurement with minimum user interaction. Uniform and non-uniform samples alike are simply placed in the target area and custom designed PC software for data capture and analysis means results are available in 10 seconds; including sample handling time.

VideometerLab 2 can measure colour, texture, shape, size, orientation and gloss, providing product and process information in the following areas:

Food
Product conformity, quality grading, shelf life/spoilage and formulation studies for bread, biscuits, snack foods, cheese, meat, sugar. Grain applications include fusarium detection, hydration and germination studies.

Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics
Colour deviation may indicate manufacturing errors in both liquid and solid products and packaging. Potential counterfeit or substitution issues can also be highlighted.

Biotechnology
Identification of microbial cultures in agar, and enzymatic treatment effects.

Surfaces/Materials
Texture and colour of textiles, paper, wood, metal and ceramics can all be assessed.
