The GL Optic Mini-Spectrometer and 1.1 metre integrating sphere in use at Astro LightingAnalytik report on Astro Lighting’s use of the GL Optic Mini-Spectrometer and 1.1 metre integrating sphere for high precision light assessment

Cambridge, UK, 10th January 2013: Analytik, leading suppliers of innovative analytical instrumentation to the UK and Ireland, partner with German company, GL Optic, for the supply of handheld and laboratory based spectroradiometers and integrating spheres for use in both quality control and research applications for the growing lighting marketplace. Here, Analytik reports on how Astro Lighting makes use of this product in their development of new LED lighting.

GL Optic Mini-Spectrometer is a practical and reliable handheld device specifically designed for the measurement and characterisation of light sources – especially LEDs – providing accurate spectral information and colour coordinates conforming to CIE standards. Dedicated software automatically calculates critical parameters such as colour temperature and colour rendering index, whilst different accessories are available for specialised measurements; including luminous flux using the 48mm Integrating Sphere, and luminance measurement of flat LCD and OLED panels, and plasma FPDs using the Display Sensor optical probe.

Speaking about the purchase, Product Development Manager, Stuart Wells, said, ”the GL Optic instrumentation will improve our product development within LED lighting. We now have a much more scientific approach to the process and higher accuracy of light measuring in-house. Before using GL Optic equipment, we had very limited testing on site regarding light output and relied upon external test labs to assist with this research which can be costly. Now we have the facility to measure and test light output which adds to our thermal testing capability within the R&D process.”

Wells continued: “Analytik have been able to provide Astro with a high performance, cost-effective package. The deciding factor to our purchase was the simplicity of the equipment and ease of use. Now, all members of our design team can use the equipment to fine tune our designs.”

Talking about the value of GL Optics’ products to Analytik’s range of innovative scientific solutions for industry and research, founder and Managing Director, Ian Laidlaw, says “The UK lighting technology market is growing rapidly and we are very excited at having Astro Lighting join our increasing group of users. The Mini-Spectrometer continues to broaden our market reach based on more than nine years’ experience working in spectroscopy and allied measurement techniques.”
